Travel by Rail
When traveling to such destinations as Boston, Washington DC and places in-between, Amtrak offers a quick and frequent service from 30th Street Station. The mode of rail travel is expected to be the least costly option consistent with the itinerary and particular University business involved.
Reserved Trains
Reserved trains on the northeast corridor are permitted and should be used for most Amtrak travel. “Coach Class” and “Business Class” (reserved seating) is permitted on these trains.
Acela
Acela trains are high speed trains. Appropriate usage of Acela service between Philadelphia, New York and Washington, DC is the responsibility of each school / center and these trains should only be used when time is of the essence. Business class seats on Acela trains are the acceptable class of service.
How to Purchase Tickets
Tickets can be purchased using the Amtrak Quik-Trak, a kiosk in Houston Hall, any Amtrak counter, or the Amtrak website. Reservations are recommended (and required on some trains) and some fare restrictions may apply.
Payment Options for Amtrak tickets
The recommended payment methods for Amtrak tickets is American Express Corporate Card and Purchasing Card. If you use an American Express Corporate Card, you must keep all receipts and submit them for reimbursement in a timely manner. If using the Purchasing Card, your business administrator can assist you when making your reservations on-line or using the Amtrak Quik-Trak in Houston Hall. You must retain all receipts and provide them to your business administrator in accordance to documentation requirements.
